(REGISTRATION WILL CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER FOR THOSE UNABLE TO REGISTER ON JUNE 3RD.)
It’s time to GO BUGGY FOR BOOKS! Children of all ages are invited to BEE a part of the 2008 CATCH THE READING BUG Summer Reading Program at the Scottsbluff Public Library. This program is for children who are at least two years old, in kindergarten, or entering the first through sixth grade. Each BOOKWORM who registers on June 3rd will get to play the BUG BEAN BAG TOSS game for f-ANT-astic prizes, make a BUGGY craft project, go on a BUGS IN THE LIBRARY SCAVENGER HUNT, and enjoy other wonderful WIGGLY adventures!
CHILDREN WHO READ 5 BOOKS WILL RECEIVE THESE REWARDS---

THURSDAYS…FILMS, FUN & OTHER BUGGY BUSINESS…Every Thursday, June 5 – July 17. (except June 26)…10:00-10:30 a.m….Library Meeting Room
BOOK BUG BUDDIES of all ages are invited to SWARM to the meeting room for movies, INSECT INFO, and prizes to ANT-icipate. We’ll have a BUGGY BLAST!
TUESDAY, JUNE 10..BUG-A-LOO BONANZA....all ages...10:00-10:45 a.m.
It’s time to BUZZ YOUR WAY to the library park for a program designed to help you CATCH THE READING BUG! We will SPIN a story, go on a BUG HUNT, and enjoy other BEASTLY BUG activities. Following this BUGZERK morning, all SOLDIER ANTS attending will be treated to BUGALICIOUS snacks donated by ARBY’S. After enjoying CENTIPEDE Soda and CATERPILLAR Cookies (pop and cookies), all BUSY BUG READERS will receive a BUGGY door hanger to take home.
JUNE 10–JUNE 26..CREATE A CREEPY CRAWLER / BUTTERFLY COLOR CONTEST
WORM your way to the library and pick up a BUTTERFLY color contest form (preschool - 2nd grade) or a CREATE A CREEPY CRAWLER contest form (3rd–6th grade) and DIG in! Draw, create, color or decorate, and return your entry to the library on or before June 26th. Entries will be displayed, with winners announced and prizes awarded during film time on July 10th. All who participate will receive a coupon for a deli sandwich, cookie, and drink, courtesy of SUBWAY following the judging.
TUESDAY, JUNE 17..CATCH THE ZOO BUG!..all ages…10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
GATES OPEN AT 9:30 a.m. (Free admission until 10:15)
(Children must be accompanied by an adult.)
BUGS GALORE and much more await all who WEAVE their way to the RIVERSIDE ZOO to CATCH THE ZOO BUG! From 10 to 11 a.m. there will be Learning Stations located through-out the zoo with mini programs at each site designed for children to learn fascinating facts about creatures of the arthropod family. Children are welcome to explore the zoo, visit the exhibits and enjoy the playground. All who attend will receive a Zoo-prize to take home.
THURSDAY, JUNE 26..MIDWEST MOVIE PARTY…all ages ...10:00 - 11:30 a.m.
In order to attend the MIDWEST movie party, sponsored by HORIZONS WEST MEDICAL GROUP, FRIENDS OF THE MIDWEST THEATER and the SCOTTSBLUFF PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION, you must have read at least five books and have received credit at the library. You will receive a TICKET from the library staff which must be presented at the Midwest Theater on June 26th to gain admittance. The movie "BEE MOVIE" (rated PG) will be shown (subject to change). Children with tickets will be seated first. If there are
remaining seats, adults may attend for $1.00. The theater will open at 9:30 a.m.TUESDAY, JULY 1…TWEETLE BUGS IN TWEETLE TOWN PLAY & INSECT MANIA DAY..all ages….10:00 – 10:45 a.m….Library Park
Don’t be a hum-BUG! FLIT, FLUTTER, or FLY to the park for this jam packed morning! We will begin with our annual play, written and directed by Steve Viessman. The performance will feature the TWEETLE BUGS and their adventures in TWEETLE TOWN. Following the performance, the entomology team from the Univ. of Nebraska – PREC will bring real insect displays and share intriguing information. Their displays will include live Madagascar hissing cockroaches, insect collections, methods for catching insects, and lots more. All who attend will BEE treated to a PESTY pop ice, courtesy of KMART.
TUESDAY, JULY 8…WINGS, STINGS, & LEGGY THINGS DRESS UP DAY…all ages 10:00 –10:45 a.m.…Library Park
All BUG BUDDIES are invited to wear their WINGS or LEGGY things and CREEP or FLY to the park for a costume contest. Whether it’s a BEETLE, a BUTTERFLY, or a CRICKET, children may create and wear the costume of their favorite INSECT or ARACHNID and join our BUGS ‘R’ US morning. Costumes will be judged and prizes awarded to all.
SATURDAY, JULY 19…BUG SPLASH POOL BASH…all ages…11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Great GRASSHOPPERS, it’s a swimming pool party! In order to attend the BUG SPLASH POOL BASH, courtesy of the CITY OF SCOTTSBLUFF RECREATION DEPARTMENT, you must have read at least twenty books and have received credit at the library. You will receive a TICKET from library staff which must be presented at the WESTMOOR POOL on July 19th to gain admittance.
TUESDAY, JULY 22..MAGIC SHOW & BYE BYE BUGGY WRAP UP PARTY ..all ages….7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m….Midwest Theater
Come and BEE amazed! The whole family is invited to an evening of magic and juggling performed by professional magician Cody Landstrom, from Fort Collins, Colorado. Sponsored by SYLVAN LEARNING CENTER and WAL-MART, Landstrom’s show promises to be a BUGGY celebration for all who SWARM to the MIDWEST THEATER. Following the performance, we’ll announce the "Old Woman Who Swallowed a FLY" Guess Jar winner and draw for prizes for those who read books from the SPIDER’S WEB display. Here’s the BUZZ--- every child who attends will receive a BUGGY ABOUT BOOKS bonus prize to take home. No reading requirement is necessary to attend, and admission is free.
